Stargazer films
The Stargazer films stem from a new body of work in which I have been trying to create equivalences for sensuous experiences. Specifically this is a rather futile series using a range of more or less successful and rather mundane techniques, which repeatedly do no more than try to recreate that feeling of staring into the night sky. In a sense they are always bound to fail, to fall tragically short of what they try to emulate. I like that.

I think these works also stem from a form of nostalgic wonderment, I still remember clearly spending what seemed like hours (but were probably only minutes) lying on my back looking at the stars until I could see or at least imagine the distances between them. This was coupled with a love of science fiction. I grew up watching shows like: Dr Who, Space 1999, UFO, Star Trek and Blake's 7. The tv image that I still enjoy most is the 'starview'. It is usually presented 'onscreen' on the bridge of a spaceship, a show within a show. The stars stream past or twinkle or explode as the narrative demands.
